How to keep your audience engaged over the summer
While many welcome the slower pace of summer days, for some businesses, this slower time may be a bit scary! So while people are vacationing, spending more time outside, and trying to make the most of summer, let’s talk about how you can keep your audience engaged over the summer!
Don’t disappear
We always encourage business owners to take a break and not to burn out and even though you may also see a slump in engagement, it doesn’t mean you should disappear completely. Stay consistent! Keep posting and engaging with your followers. If you’re looking to take a break yourself, you can tap into features and tools to help automate your work, for example, you can schedule posts using in-app features or platforms like Later.
Embrace summer
What do you think of when you think of summer? Probably slower living, fun, hosting, etc. Let these ideas inspire your content. Share more casual content (for example, in Instagram Stories), share content tailored to summer (i.e. hosting a bbq, summer look books, beach day hacks, etc).
Have some fun
Who doesn’t love a summer giveaway, a summer bash, or a good summer promo (from back-to-school, to wardrobe must-haves, and more)? There are so many ways to have a little bit of fun and create a little bit of fun this summer!
Tap into trends
Even if people aren’t on social as much, they’re still there, and so are the trending content ideas, memes, and more. Tap into them while they’re hot! For example, Love Island just wrapped up, but it was huge this summer. My social media feeds were full of brands and users alike using viral memes and audio clips from the show.
Below are a few examples of brands tapping into popular trends this summer.
Love Island has had many trending moments this summer including this one about a date. Brands like Spirit Halloween have put their own spin on it!
Another Love Island Meme! Islander Huda told her fellow islander Nic that she’s a mom and the conversation went viral (people even turned it into a song)! Brands like Tim Hortons have used it to show off their products and have a little fun. You can see the full post here.
There is currently a trend going around in which people use a specific audio, insert a video clip and include the text “a little something to take the edge off.” It’s a play on smoking, but people will include things like sweets, makeup, their pets, and more, basically anything that makes them happy! Touchland (which is a hand sanitizer brand), created their own version of this trending idea, with someone holding their sanitizer. In the image you’ll also see a plush bag clip called Labubu, which is also all the rage right now, so they’re tapping into that popularity as well.
To sum everything up, we suggest staying consistent, being present and engaging with your audience, and having some fun!
